How to configure embedded platform timeout settings (PaperCut Hive)

This page applies to:

Last updated October 7, 2026

This article explains how to configure timeout and sleep settings for PaperCut Hive embedded applications on multi-function devices (MFDs/copiers). It provides procedures for Fujifilm, Ricoh (SmartSDK), Sharp, Toshiba (MDS V3), Xerox, Konia Minolta, Kyocera, HP, Lexmark, and Canon devices.

After a user logs in to a device, the device should automatically log them out after a period of inactivity. Consider both security and usability when you determine the optimal setting for your environment.

How PaperCut Hive embedded timeouts work

The inactivity timeout behavior depends on the interface the user interacts with:

  • Native device functions (for example, copy or device scanning): When a user leaves the PaperCut Hive interface to access native device functions, the native printer timeout and sleep settings govern the inactivity logout.
  • PaperCut Hive interface (for example, print release or quick scan): When the user interacts directly with the PaperCut Hive app screen, the session timeout defaults to 60 seconds (controlled by PaperCut Hive configuration keys).

Note: The effective timeout is typically whichever is lower between the PaperCut Hive setting and the device’s native inactivity setting.

Fujifilm—configuring embedded timeout and sleep settings

To configure the timeout and sleep settings on Fujifilm devices:

  1. Log in to the device’s web interface as an administrator.
  2. Go to System > Power Saver.
  3. Set Time to Low Power Mode to 1 minute (default) or more.
  4. Set Time to Sleep Mode to 1 minute (default) or more.
  5. Go to System > Timeouts.
  6. Set Timeout (or Auto Clear) to 1 minute or more.

Ricoh (SmartSDK)—configuring embedded timeout settings

To configure the timeout settings on Ricoh SmartSDK devices:

  1. On the physical device (or remotely via the web interface under Device Management > Configuration > Timer), log in as an administrator.
  2. Go to User Tools > System Settings > Timer Settings.
  3. Set System Auto Reset Timer to Off. This ensures the PaperCut Hive embedded application interface remains visible after the reset timer elapses.
  4. Set Auto Logout Timer to at least 60 seconds.

Note: This only applies when the user uses the device’s native functions. If you set this to less than 60 seconds, there can be adverse effects, such as incomplete or inaccurate copy job tracking.

Sharp—configuring embedded timeout settings

A backend configuration key applied per printer app controls the timeout setting. PaperCut Support must configure this in the PaperCut Hive developer backend.

If you need to change or increase the PaperCut Hive embedded timeout on Sharp devices, contact PaperCut Support and provide your Organization ID (Org ID) to request the change.

Toshiba (MDS V3)—configuring embedded timeout settings

To configure the timeout on Toshiba devices:

  1. Log in to the TopAccess Administration web interface.
  2. Under Administration, click Setup.
  3. Under Energy Save, locate Auto Clear.
  4. Select the desired timeout (60 seconds is recommended).
  5. Click Save.

Xerox—configuring embedded timeout settings

To adjust device timeout settings on Xerox devices:

  1. Access the device web interface at http://<device-ip>/.
  2. Increase the Touch User Interface System Timeout.
  3. Increase the Smart Card Inactivity Timer (if applicable).

Konica Minolta—configuring embedded timeout settings

To set the display and reset timeouts on Konica Minolta devices:

  1. Log in as an administrator on the device’s web interface (called Page Scope Web Connection) at http://DEVICE_HOSTNAME/.
  2. Go to Utility > Administrator Settings > System Settings > Reset.
  3. Set the priority to Main Menu.
  4. Set the System Auto Reset Time to longer than 1 minute.

Kyocera—configuring embedded timeout and sleep settings

The machine’s local sleep and reset timers control auto-logout on Kyocera devices. These hardware settings apply at a device-wide level.

To adjust how long a user session lasts before timing out, modify the local sleep and reset timer settings directly on the printer.

Configure via the device touchscreen panel

To adjust the settings on the physical device:

  1. Press the Menu button on the physical device.
  2. Go to Device Common Settings.
  3. Select Timer Settings to adjust the sleep and reset timers.

Configure via the device web interface (Command Center)

To adjust the settings via the web interface:

  1. Log in to the Kyocera Command Center as an administrator.
  2. Go to Device Settings > Energy Saver/Timer.
  3. Adjust the sleep level, sleep timer, or low-power mode timer as needed.

HP—configuring embedded timeout settings

For HP devices, you manage session timeouts and idle drops through the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) settings:

  1. Log in to the printer’s EWS (https://<Printer_IP>) as an administrator.
  2. Go to General > Inactivity Timeout. This controls when the device enters an inactive state, refreshes the browser screen, and automatically logs the user out from PaperCut Hive. You cannot disable this entirely on HP, but you can set it up to 300 seconds (5 minutes).
  3. Go to Security > General Security.
  4. Increase the Session Timeout to avoid the app’s session being invalidated.
  5. Go to General > Energy Settings (or Energy Save Settings).
  6. Lengthen the Sleep Mode timer (or sleep/auto-off delay) so that the printer’s hardware sleep timer does not expire while users actively interact with the device.

Lexmark—configuring embedded timeout settings

To configure the timeout on Lexmark devices:

  1. Access the Lexmark web admin interface by browsing to http://<lexmark-device-ip>/.
  2. Go to Settings > Device > Screen Timeout.
  3. Set the desired timeout value (for example, 15 seconds).
  4. Click Save.

When the user is idle on the device, the native timeout automatically logs the user out of PaperCut Hive and returns the display to the login screen.

Canon—configuring embedded timeout settings

A backend configuration key applied per printer app controls the timeout setting. PaperCut Support must configure this in the PaperCut Hive developer backend.

If you need to change or increase the PaperCut Hive embedded timeout on Canon devices, contact PaperCut Support and provide your Organization ID (Org ID) to request the change.
