Embedded Device UI options

This page applies to:

Last updated June 29, 2026

In PaperCut MF v26 we have introduced a new set of options in the Admin Interface known as Device Options. This section will include Organization wide changes you can make to the User Interface on any MFD running the PaperCut MF embedded.

Modern Embedded Interface vs Classic Embedded Interface

Introduced in PaperCut MF v26, we have completely redesigned the interface on embedded MFDs. This new mode, known as ‘Modern Embedded Interface’ offers a dark mode design, more in-line with the interface offered in the PaperCut Hive style. You still have the option to set devices to the original design, known as the ‘Classic Embedded Interface’.

Key benefits of the Modern Embedded Interface

  • Zero functional risk: Because this is a design refresh only, no core workflows or buttons change. Users don’t need to be re-trained on how to print, copy, or scan.
  • No upgrade surprises: Existing customers upgrading to MF 26.0 will keep the Classic Embedded Interface automatically. Nothing changes for them unless the administrator actively chooses to change to the Modern Embedded Interface.
  • Familiarity for the future: Provides a familiar experience for users as the organization evolves, especially if they plan to move to a cloud-native solution (PaperCut Hive) later.
  • Control and flexibility: Admins have total control. They can opt-in when ready or toggle back to “Classic” instantly if they prefer, all without a device restart.

Which Brands support the Modern Embedded Interface?

The Modern Embedded Interface is available on the following platforms:

  • Canon (MEAP)
  • Fujifilm (BI 7+)
  • Fuji Xerox (BI 7+)
  • Konica Minolta (i-Option)
  • Sharp (HTML Browser N2.0+)
  • Toshiba (MDS V3)
  • Xerox (EIP 1.5+)
  • Ricoh (Smart SDK v2)

Brands like Kyocera, Brother, and Lexmark (or white-label of these devices), as well as 3rd party developed applications (e.g. Epson and Riso) do not support the dark theme.

If a customer has a mixed fleet which includes unsupported brands, enabling the dark theme will result in some devices showing the dark mode and others showing the classic UI. If visual consistency is important, we recommend defaulting to the classic UI.
