PaperCut on multiple servers

Q: Can I run PaperCut on multiple servers?

Yes! Often times customers ask about installing PaperCut onto multiple print servers, either as a production/development setup or as a functional solution for tracking across multiple print servers. Either way, you’ll be covered by your PaperCut license.

Licensing Considerations: PaperCut can be installed on as many servers as required. As a company we have decided against per server licenses as this approach penalizes sites with multiple existing print servers, and may require them to restructure or overload print servers. Instead, PaperCut is licensed per device as we feel this better reflects an organization’s requirements.

In cases where you need to install multiple standalone application servers, you can apply for an enterprise wide license which allows such installations. You can read more about that license along with the requirements here.

Setup Considerations…

PaperCut has excellent support for multiple servers using a primary and secondary server concept. This involves setting up a single Application server and installing multiple Secondary Servers. The Secondary Servers run a small print monitoring service and reports it’s activity back to the Application Server.

Configuring Secondary Servers is described in the manual here
