The way we work is undergoing a massive upgrade. Driven by the arrival of AI-ready Copilot+ PCs, organizations are racing to adopt ARM64 (Snapdragon) laptops for their game-changing battery life and performance.
However, for many IT teams, this exciting hardware revolution hit an unexpected blocker: the printer. Traditional x64 drivers don’t work with ARM64, and many manufacturers don’t have plans to build new native drivers. IT Admins are stuck with “unsolvable” support tickets or manual workarounds to get users printing.
Microsoft recently acknowledged the challenges in their update on advancing print readiness across the Windows on ARM ecosystem, noting that the entire industry is working to ensure infrastructure can keep up with this next generation of computing.
But while the industry prepares, PaperCut is delivering. With the release of Print Deploy v1.10.4178, we’ve officially unblocked the ARM64 revolution, making your print environment ready for these devices today, regardless of whether a native driver even exists.
What’s new?
PaperCut Print Deploy v1.10.4178 introduces changes that bridge the gap between your new laptops and your existing printer fleet by offering:
- Smart detection: The Print Deploy client now automatically identifies if a device is ARM64 or x64.
- The “one queue” standard: Manage just one print queue for all users. The engine automatically delivers the correct driver based on the laptop’s specific chipset.
- Zero-dependency printing: If a manufacturer hasn’t released a native ARM64 driver yet, our built-in Global Print Driver steps in to ensure everyday printing works on any MFD.
Why it’s a game-changer
- For IT Admins: No need to be setting up and managing separate zones or redundant queues for different laptop types. No more unsolvable IT help desk tickets because users can’t print to MFD’s due to missing ARM64 drivers.
- For the Organization: Total hardware freedom. Buy the laptops you want—not the ones your printer drivers dictate.
- For Users: No more “unsolvable” support tickets. Open your brand-new Surface Pro, hit print, and it “just works”.
A huge thank you to our Percolator community
This release follows a successful Percolator phase, where our community of early adopters put this feature to the test in real-world environments.
We want to say a massive thank you to all the participants! Your feedback was instrumental in helping us shape the “one queue” logic and ensuring this solution solves the actual headaches you face in the field. This release is as much yours as it is ours.
