Enable Integrated Scanning

This page applies to:

The basic workflow to enable Integrated Scanning in PaperCut Hive is:

  1. Connect the “Scan to” add-on for the destination you require.
  2. Add a Quick Scan.
  3. Enable Integrated Scanning for individual printers.
  4. On each physical printer, log out and log in again for the Quick Scans to show on the touchscreen.

You can do the first two steps of the workflow in two different ways:

  • start from the Easy Print & Scan page
  • start from the Add-ons page.

Starting from “Easy Print & Scan”

  1. In the PaperCut Hive admin console, go to Easy Print & Scan > Integrated Scanning > Add Quick Scan.
  2. Select one of the scan destinations. Note: If the destination you want isn’t connected to PaperCut Hive yet, when you click it you’ll be taken straight to that destination’s add-on tile on the Add-ons page. Connect it and follow the online steps to return to the Add Quick Scan page.
  3. Configure the Quick Scan and click Save Changes.
  4. Now you need to enable Integrated Scanning for individual printers; see the appropriate heading below for your brand of printers.

Starting from “Add-ons”

  1. In the PaperCut Hive admin console, go to Add-ons, select the scan-to destination you want and add it to your org.
  2. Go to Easy Print & Scan > Integrated Scanning > Add Quick Scan.
  3. Select the same scan destination, configure it, and click Save Changes.
  4. Now you need to enable Integrated Scanning for individual printers; see the appropriate heading below for your brand of printers.

Enabling Integrated Scanning for printers

For Fujifilm, HP OXPd, Konica Minolta, Sharp, and Toshiba printers

  1. Go to Printers and select a compatible printer. TIP: Look for the APP ACTIVE tag next to a printer name. The printer details panel slides out.
  2. Click the Apps tab, and in the Integrated Scanning section enable the Quick Scan toggle. Also for the Konica Minolta printer specifically, make sure Version 2 is installed to see the Integrated Scanning section. NOTE: Printer brands that aren’t compatible with Integrated Scanning don’t have the Integrated Scanning section under the Apps tab.
  3. Click Save Changes.

For Ricoh printers

Before you can enable Integrated Scanning you have to upgrade the latest version of the Full Embedded App.

💡 There will be a brief outage during the installation. If you plan to do the upgrade during business hours, please notify the end-users. We recommend doing the upgrade outside of business hours.

  1. Go to Printers and select the Ricoh printer you want to upgrade the Full Embedded App on.
  2. Click Apps > Upgrade link.
  3. Download the new binary and installation guide.
  4. Go to the printer’s web interface and navigate to Device Management > Configuration > Extended Feature Settings > Install.
  5. Select Local File and click Choose File.
  6. In the Choose File dialog, select the application ZIP file named PaperCut-Hive-{version}.zip, which is included in the same directory as this installation guide. The {version} suffix will vary based on the version you have. NOTE: You can re-use this same file for any supported Ricoh printer.
  7. Click Display Extended Feature List. (Expect a delay of about 30 - 40 seconds after clicking, which depends on the network. The upload happens on this step but there’s no visual indication of the progress.)
  8. In Installation Target Setting > Install to, select Device HDD.
  9. In Type-J Setting > Auto Start, select On.
  10. In Extended Feature List: a. Select the PaperCut Hive row. b. Click Install.
  11. In the confirmation dialog, ensure the installation options are accurate, then click Ok.

After the install is done:

  1. Wait about 1 to 2 minutes, then go to the PaperCut Hive admin console.
  2. Go to Printers, then select the Ricoh printer. If the printer’s details panel was already open, we suggest you close and reopen it.
  3. Click the Apps tab, and in the Integrated Scanning section enable the Quick Scan toggle.
  4. Click Save Changes.
