Windows 2008 Authentication Issue

Note: Windows Server 2008 (pre R2) will no longer be supported after 31 March 2018.

Windows 2008 has been shown to occasionally identify print jobs from client workstations with the wrong user name. This will result in the wrong user being listed in the Windows Print Queue. Microsoft has acknowledge this bug (accidentally introduced in a critical update) in the following knowledge base article:

We recommend that customers affected by this issue request the hotfix and schedule time to apply. The issue is most often seen when a user logs in to a workstation, then logs out, and another logs in. The original printing credentials are left over from the first logged in user (not flushed on logout!).

There have also been reports that patching at the server side does not resolve the issue, and that Vista SP1 clients must also be patched. If using Vista SP1 clients we recommend applying the hotfix to these as well if problems continue after a server upgrade.
