Customizing the User Web Interface

KB Home   |   Customizing the User Web Interface

The primary reason behind customizing the User web interface is to provide a user experience consistent with the existing intranet or organization style. In version 17.2 of PaperCut NG and PaperCut MF, we introduced the ability for administrators to easily customize aspects of the UI themselves directly from the Admin web interface, allowing the color of various elements to be changed, and for logos and background images to be displayed for branding purposes. These options can be found under the “Branding” heading found on the “General” subtab of the “Options” tab in the administration console, with controls for the login page, the Admin web interface, and the User web interface to be tweaked as desired. Settings are also offered under the “Client Software” heading on the same page, facilitating changes to the display style of the User Client software.

For versions prior to 17.2, we offered the option to have PaperCut tailor the “look and feel” of the User web interface on your behalf. This option was included with the implementation pack, or could be purchased separately under the name Tailored Web Tools.

Having PaperCut Customize Your User Web Interface

If you are running a version of PaperCut NG or PaperCut MF released prior to 17.2, and had purchased the implementation pack or Tailored Web Tools, please ensure the following is provided:

  • Your organization’s logo with a minimum size of 60×60 pixels.
  • Your preferred color scheme. This is often best presented in the form of an HTTP link to an existing public page, an HTML file copied from an existing internet/intranet site, or a screenshot of an existing web page.

Email the logo and link(s) to premium-support@papercut.com. They will be used to make both a 250×64 pixel image for use on the login screen, and a header bar for the User web interface. If you have preferred images to suit these uses, please include them.

Please Note: The Admin web interface and the web based Release Stations are not affected by the Tailored Web Tools customization package.

Installing Your PaperCut Tailored Web Tools

PaperCut supplies the Tailored Web Tools interface in the form of a compressed archive, the contents of which override the standard User web interface.

To install:

  1. Ensure PaperCut NG / PaperCut MF is installed and working.
  2. Extract the archive to the directory located at: [app-path]\server\custom\web
  3. Access the User web interface with a web browser (http://server_name:9191/user) and verify the changes have taken place. You may need to press the refresh button to acquire the changes. In some situations you may need to press ctrl-refresh or shift-refresh so that your browser discovers the new content.

If you experience any problems, please email our support team.

Customizing the CSS of Your Own User Web Interface

The user manual for PaperCut NG and PaperCut MF contains information useful for customizing the CSS of the User web interface yourself. A skeleton CSS file you can use to start the customization for older versions of our software can be found here, and some common customization requirements that can be accomplished using JavaScript can be found here.
