Resetting an Internal Users Password

THE PAGE APPLIES TO:

Why can’t PaperCut reset my password?

While PaperCut creates the software itself (we do the code!), organizations then install it and the local IT departments are responsible for usernames/passwords and so on. Sadly we don’t have access to reset passwords for end users - but your local IT/Admin department should be able to help out! If you check your school or university’s website, there will hopefully be information on how to get help from your organization’s IT or administration department.

Similarly, we’d love to be able to give you the URL where you can access your user interface - but again, this will be set up and maintained by your organization’s IT or administration department - so you’ll need to contact them to get this information.

Users with access to the User Web Page

If your IT organization has given you the URL to access the User Web Interface page, you can reset your password by clicking on Change Details > Change Password.

To get to your user web page, you’ll need to head over to your organization’s PaperCut website - normally in the form of http://servername:9191/user (where ‘servername’ is your IT department / Admin department’s address for the PaperCut server). Again, if you don’t know this, you’ll need to chat with your IT or administration department.

IMPORTANT: If you don’t see the ‘Change Password’ section when you log into your PaperCut user interface, then your account password is most likely managed externally e.g. by Microsoft’s Active Directory, or MS Office 365 or Google Workspace etc. In this case you’ll need to contact your organization’s IT or administration department to find out how to change or reset your password in that external system.

PaperCut Administrators

Administrators at the user’s organization can reset the password via the user’s details page in the PaperCut Application Server Administration Console. Head into the administration interface then into Users > [select an internal user] > Details > Internal User Settings. For Internal users, there will be a warning with ‘This is an internally managed user’ and below that will be a “Change Password” link.

IMPORTANT: If you do not see the ‘This is an internally managed user’ banner for a user, this means that the user is a standard user (probably sync’d into PaperCut from an external user directory source - like Microsoft AD or MS Office 365 or Google Workspace etc. If this is the case, you’ll need to reset the user’s password in that external system (e.g. reset the user’s password in AD or Google).
