Applications that create PLC 5 documents are required to know the printable areas of the printers that they will be printed on. PaperCut attempts to place watermarks at the bottom or top of the printable area of document pages so it has to deduce the printable area from the documents.

The PCL 5 coordinate system has its origin at the top left corner of the
page. Therefore if the printable area implied in a PCL 5 document does not match the printer it is printed on, PaperCut watermarks positioned at the bottom of the page will be in the wrong location.

PaperCut can place watermarks anywhere within the printable area of document pages, so it has to utilise the printable area reported by the document itself in order to place these correctly.

As the PCL 5 coordinate system has its origin at the top left corner of the page this location will not depend on the printable area of the page that PaperCut deduces from the PCL 5 document.

If a watermark does
not print then there may be some description of why it did not in App.Log. If there no description there then please read +.

"Full page" watermarking is
not supported by PaperCut NG and PaperCut MF in conjunction with PCL5 drivers. If a watermark does not print, then there may be some description of why it did not under the "Application Log" subtab of the "Options" tab in the administration console. If there no description there, please read +.

!! Background
PCL 5 printers do not have commands for telling PCL 5 documents the printable area of pages. Therefore applications creating PLC 5 documents are required to know the printable areas of the pages on the printers that the documents will be printed on.

PaperCut attempts to place watermarks at the bottom or top of the printable area of pages so it has to deduce the printable area of the PCL documents created by other applications. It does this based on the way documents are created so if a PCL driver designed for printer A is used with printer B then PaperCut will position watermarks based on the printable area it deduces from the document which is for printer A.

The PCL 5 coordinate system has its origin at the top left corner of the page. Therefore it the printer driver does not have an accurate knowledge of the printable area of the actual page, PCL 5 watermarks positioned at the bottom of the page will be in the wrong long location.
