Login to PaperCut interfaces using Email Address

THE PAGE APPLIES TO:

Using your email address to log into the PaperCut interfaces

It’s a common expectation now that users want to log in to their systems using their email address.

Since version 14.1, PaperCut MF and NG allow users to use their email address as an alternative method to log in (i.e. user interface, release station, MFDs, web release, mobile client), and this works out-of-the-box - meaning there is no additional configuration required to enable this!

The only requirement is that the user has an email address specified in their PaperCut User Profile. Commonly this is achieved via the synchronisation with your User Directory - e.g. if the AD account has an email address in it, this will be synchronised with PaperCut. As long as this is true, your users can log in to PaperCut using their email address as the username. Their password will be their domain password.

In some organizations users don’t even know their username (sAMAccountName); this would allow them to log in using their email address.

It is also useful in cases where a user has forgotten their username.

Setting or checking the email address for a user

The email should appear (or can be populated) in the PaperCut admin interface, under Users > [select a user] > Details > then by populating either the Primary email or Other emails fields.

If you’re wanting to set these email fields automatically, check out the User and Group sync section of the manual, which includes information on how to sync email fields from AD, Azure, LDAP, Google and other sync sources.

Other scenarios

There can be other ways that your users can log in with their ‘email address’ - depending on which sync source you’re using (e.g. Azure AD vs Windows Active Directory), so it’s worth checking out the article How to configure PaperCut to allow users to log in with an alternate username if the above information doesn’t cover your requirements!
