HP Enhanced User Experience

Why is upgrading to PaperCut MF 21.0 a great idea when you have HP OXP devices in your fleet? Because we have enhanced the HP user experience! The enhanced mode is a new user workflow on HP OXP devices that lets users authenticate and log in directly to the PaperCut MF home screen. Not your thing? No problem - we’ve made sure there’s an option to keep using the existing user experience.

How to set up enhanced mode across the whole fleet

It’s quick and easy to set up a consistent user experience across your entire fleet.

Note: If you want to use the enhanced mode on just some devices, skip down to How to set up enhanced mode on a partial fleet.

  1. Ensure your HP OXP devices are running OXP firmware version 4.6 or greater.
  2. Use the Config Editor to change the PaperCut MF global configuration key ext-device.hp-oxpd.enhanced-mode from DEFAULT to Y. (DEFAULT behaviour is off for PaperCut MF version 21.0.)

PaperCut MF admin > Options > Config Editor - Global config key.

How to set up enhanced mode on a partial fleet

If you don’t want enhanced mode on a device or if some of your devices don’t meet the firmware requirement, you can use a device config key to override the global config key.

  1. In the PaperCut NG/MF Web admin interface, navigate to each of the device’s Device Details page.
  2. Override the global config key ext-device.hp-oxpd.enhanced-mode=Y with the device configuration key ext-device.hp-oxpd.enhanced-mode.
  3. Set the value to N.

PaperCut MF admin > Devices > External Device List > Device Details - Device config key.

How do I continue using the existing user experience?

Not much to do! Leave the PaperCut MF global configuration key ext-device.hp-oxpd.enhanced-mode set to DEFAULT. The DEFAULT behaviour is off for PaperCut MF version 21.0. If you have disabled Print Release and Integrated Scanning, don’t enable enhanced mode.

Direct to Print Release!

Do you want to configure the device so that when you log ingo directly to print release that it’ll go straight to the home screen instead? Even if there are no pending jobs to release?

Direct to Print Release.

There are 2 config keys for this:

ext-device.hp-oxpd.direct-to-release-page

ext-device.hp-oxpd.skip-release-screen-when-no-jobs

Default values are N.

  • If you want to show the Print Release screen on login, set ext-device.hp-oxpd.direct-to-release-page to Y.

Configure device config key to log in directly to print release.

  • If you want to see the Print Release screen on login, but go to PaperCut Home if there are no pending jobs to release, set ext-device.hp-oxpd.skip-release-screen-when-no-jobs to Y.

This key is relevant only if ext-device.hp-oxpd.direct-to-release-page is set to Y.

Configure to log in directly to print release, but to home screen, if no jobs to release.

Reminder: A config key to toggle the display of the PaperCut MF Account Selection icon on the device (ext-device.hp.register.account-selection) has been available since Release 18.2.

Configure to disable the Account Selection icon on Device home screen.
