Correcting Historical Displays of Page Count Errors

THE PAGE APPLIES TO:

Occasionally incorrect page counts are reported due to printer configuration settings or driver errors. After the underlying issue has been resolved, administrators may want to correct the page count entries. This procedure is primarily focused on correcting significant page count errors, and is probably not required for small count deviations.

Editing a print job’s page count

Editing incorrect data within the individual job log entry can be done from the admin console:

  1. In the PaperCut MF/NG admin console, select the ‘Printers’ tab.
  2. Select the printer in question.
  3. Select the Job Log tab under the printer that you intend to edit.
  4. If you cannot locate the job log entry, clear or adjust the filters currently active on the Job Log.
  5. Locate the job log entry and select the edit link located in the status column.
  6. Once you have finished editing click on [Apply] and then [OK] to close the Job Log entry.

Note: The job cost is not recalculated when the page count is edited. You will need to recalculate and edit the job cost to ensure that it accurately reflects the number of pages printed.

Editing job costs / editing page costs

In the same way that you can edit page count information (detailed above), you can use the same method to edit page costs / edit job costs:

Important: If you have changed the page cost for a particular job, that new cost will not be reflected in the User’s balance. For example if Alex printed a job which cost $0.25, and you edit the job log entry to show the cost as $0.10, Alex’s balance will not be updated with an additional $0.15. This would have to be done manually against the user’s account in PaperCut.

When you come across this situation and you edit a print job cost or page count, you’ll see the following warning:

Error message reads: NOTE: Changes to the cost and associated account will appear in reports only and do not update account balances. If required, manually adjust the affected account balances.

Updating Dashboard and Environmental graphs

IMPORTANT: Take care when using the Config Editor. If you use the Config Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems which can only be fixed by reinstallation of the application.

The PaperCut User Guide has additional instructions for Using the Config Editor.

Administrators can edit config keys using the following procedure:

  1. Login to the PaperCut Administration Console.
  2. Navigate to the Options tab.
  3. Click on the “Config editor (advanced)” link in the Actions menu on the left.

Update the following config-editor keys to make corrections to the total pages/sheets:

To fix the graph located on the Dashboard, you will need to update the print.stats.rolling-day.pages config-editor key.

The first number is the time stamp. The numbers that follow are the number of pages printed per day starting with the most recent day.

Example: 1320969600000,4,0,0,0,1,0,0,100,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,11,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,3
