User Client upgrade considerations

If I upgrade the PaperCut server, do I also need to upgrade the User Clients on my workstations?

No, we always maintain backwards compatibility for clients*. So you can update the server without having to update the clients. Occasionally a new feature will be introduced that will not be available in the client until you upgrade, but old clients will still continue to operate correctly.

We still recommend regularly upgrading your clients to take advantage of any new features or bug fixes. But by providing backwards compatibiliy, you can roll-out the updated clients in a time-frame that suits you.

If you are running your client in the zero-install configuration then your clients will be automatically updated every time the server is upgraded.

* Just a little caveat - one day we may need to break compatibility but if we do we'll give plenty of warning in the release notes and will restrict such changes to major releases only.
