Merging two separate domains into one
Merging two separate databases is a very complex task and not something we currently support. For example, on a technical level there are issues such as clashing primary keys, re-indexing, data normalization, conflicting printer names, etc. Technically merging would be possible, but a very large development effort. It's also something that we've only ever had three other requests for (ed: as of April 2008) so it's ranked very low on the feature request list.
The alternate solution we offer is the ability to batch import user account balances from another system (e.g. merge/migrate account balances):
In short, you'd run a report to dump the user balances in one system to MS Excel, format as appropriate, then import into the other. This way, users don't loose any funds. The only loss is really historical log information. If you choose to do this operation during a period such as end-of-term or end-of-month, this will be a minor inconvenience for all.
