Known Issues with Lexmark Embedded (PaperCut MF)
PaperCut is fully committed to helping customers and partners make the best use of our technology. A key part of that is transparency and full disclosure of issues that may affect how well the solution works for you. Unfortunately, with complex modern technology (often supplied by different organizations) there is no way to address all problems and issues immediately but keep checking back to see if we have fixed something. If something is causing you particular concern please contact support.
This page list known issues or problems encountered running the PaperCut Embedded application on Lexmark devices. Other issues are covered in:
Staple and hole punch on X658
We received some reports of Lexmark X658 devices not executing stapling or hole punch options when printing from a USB thumb drive and PaperCut is installed. Stapling and hole punch do work with copying or printing. Lexmark Australia has confirmed this. This doesn't affect other devices of the same family such as the X954 and X792.
Issue History:
- 29 March 2012 - Issue reported to Lexmark US.
- 29 March 2012 - Lexmark Australia confirms this.
- 16 March 2012 - Issue initially reported.
X464de device is slow on login
We received some reports of Lexmark X464de devices behaving slow and sluggish on login. This includes slow response to keystrokes when typing in username or password on the virtual keyboard and slow transition to the home screen after entering the password.
Lexmark has acknowledged this to be an issue.
No firmware updates or other relief has been announced for this issue.
Lexmark device freezes displaying Clock/Stop-watch (fixed by Lexmark firmware update)
We received some reports of issues where the Lexmark devices would freeze displaying the clock/stop-watch logo. This would occur intermittently and was difficult to reproduce reliably.
We worked closely with affected customers and Lexmark to collect diagnostic information and determine the cause of the problem. Lexmark identified a device firmware bug that was causing the problem, and have released a firmware upgrade for all affected devices.
The firmware upgrade was released in November 2010. Please contact Lexmark to get access to the upgraded firmware.
Some more information is available here.
Issues running on Lexmark X945e devices (fixed by Lexmark firmware update)
In November 2010 we received some reports from customers having problems running PaperCut on the Lexmark X945 device. Symptoms of the problem would vary, and could include:
- The LCD screen flickers repeatedly showing the PaperCut login screen logo.
- When ever any of the function buttons are pressed (e.g. "Copy", "Fax", etc) the LCD screen display "busy, please wait".
- The LCD screens displays "busy, please wait" when the PaperCut application starts.
These problems do not occur on most X945e devices. PaperCut has been certified to work on the X945e devices and also is known to work correctly on many customer sites. So it appears that there are differences between some X945e devices that trigger these problems.
By working closely with Lexmark this issue has been resolved through a firmware upgrade for the X945e device. The firmware version that fixes this problem is version P125. We can provide you this firmware upon request.
You will also require an updated version of the PaperCut embedded application. You can also request from us through support. This update will be included in the next release of PaperCut.
Simplified Chinese Characters - version 11.0/11.1 (resolved in 11.2)
The Lexmark Embedded version that comes with PaperCut 11.0 and 11.1 incorrectly displays Traditional Chinese when it should display Simplified Chinese. We recommend customers who require Simplified Chinese use the previous release of the Lexmark Embedded software. Please contact support and we can send you the download links for the previous versions.
LeSF 2.1 devices - versions up to 9.8 (resolved in 10.0)
Under some circumstances a copy job may not complete, and instead terminate after 30 seconds. This may occur when using the auto-document feeder to create multiple copies of a document. This problem doesn't occur when scanning from the glass.
To work-around this issue, increase the "screen timeout" setting through the device's web interface. To do this, go to Settings > General > Timeouts > Screen Timeout and set the value to the maximum of 300 seconds.
With the higher timeout value, creating multiple copies from the auto-document feeder may still finish early after about 150 pages are copied. In this case split large copy jobs into smaller copy jobs.
This issue was resolved in version 10.0.
