Technical Support Engineer

Portland, Oregon

PaperCut is an software development house with international influence. Our software helps organizations manage and control printing and reduce their impact on the environment. Our customers are system administrators from across the world including businesses and education institutions ranging in size from 5 to 500,000 users. One big reason for our continued success is our support team, who work directly with those system administrators to offer no-nonsense technical advice.

Our support team understand our customers' requirements because most of them are system administrators themselves! They are passionate about technology and solve problems in a self-motivated and independent way. With our 50,000+ customers worldwide, they are exposed to a wide range of situations across diverse and interesting environments involving clustering, databases, deployment and scripting on Windows, Mac, Linux and Novell.

Our US team is based in Portland, Oregon - ideally located for those who enjoy good food, the outdoors, craft beer and barista-grade coffee. We are an engineering-driven software development company managed by the founding developers. The management structure is flat and the dress code is casual. We believe that close contact with customers is the best way to turn their needs and ideas into applications.

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct support to our customers via phone, email and chat.
  • Providing advice about how our software will best match our customers' requirements and environment.
  • Working closely with our international team (including developers in Melbourne and a support team in the UK) to solve problems and help improve the software.
  • Helping customers help themselves by keeping our manual and knowledge base up to date.
  • Defending your OS/browser/coffee/beer of choice in the unending inter-office war argument debate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience managing a production network and servers.
  • Experience in customer technical support.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (verbal and written).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to a range of network software and tools such as Active Directory, LDAP, scripting, printers and databases.
  • Relevant certifications or experience.

Bonus points if you speak additional languages, love coffee or if we like your t-shirt. This is not an entry-level position, and the successful candidate will have significant opportunity to grow and expand, including into other areas of the business based on skill-set, aptitudes and drive.

Marketing Lead

You're a hands-on, technically savvy marketer with B2B and channel experience. A big picture thinker, you understand how all the pieces fit together to form a strategy. Naturally curious, you'll seek out new ways of approaching both old tactics and new challenges.

About the role

All our marketing to date has been driven by cross-skilled individuals in the business. We've done a great job and have driven our brand into over 100 countries however we've now reached a point where we need a more formalised approach.

This is a new role so there is scope to make it your own and take the marketing up a notch based on the results we want to achieve.

As a starting point we'd like you to:

  • Manage the consistency of our brand across all content.
  • Monitor the internet, and interface with the community in a real and transparent way.
  • Collectively brainstorm and manage:
    • SEO/SEM
    • Social Media
    • Community engagement and sponsorship
  • Manage the relationship and work performed by external agencies.
  • Coach our reseller and channel partners on how to best market PaperCut.
  • Coordinate non-digital promotions such as trade shows, magazines, sponsorships and competitions.
  • Coordinate product testimonials and case studies.
  • Brainstorm new and abstract promotion ideas.

Web Designer

Melbourne, Australia

As a 100% Aussie company that leads internationally, we are looking for a Web Designer who can contribute to our success on the world stage. As a company with a strong technical background we recognise the importance of creative and functional design, for our: marketing materials; our website; and application UI/UX.

With a well-established development team, we are expanding our design and marketing capabilities. This is a new role.

We are looking for someone to complement our team to:

  • Help drive design on a diverse range of projects: web design, videos, traditional content, social media, and of course across our website.
  • Assist the development team on UI/UX design for platforms and technologies including browser, tablet, mobile and other devices.
  • Collaborate on sales and marketing initiatives.

  • At least two years experience in web design
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (copywriting skills a bonus)
  • Proven graphic design ability
  • Ability to take your designs through to HTML & CSS and deployment
  • Practical skills in Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent
  • Desire to work across multiple media platforms (e.g. web, print, and application UI)

Developer / Senior Developer

Melbourne, Australia

Our growth has opened up an opportunity for a talented Software Developer interested in product development to join our core development team. This is the team responsible for all enhancements, innovation and maintenance of the PaperCut product line. To fit in with this team you'll need to be a highly capable software developer willing and able to turn your hand to almost anything. And you'll need a passion for quality and delivering the final polish needed to distinguish a great product from just a good one.

We understand that good developers can quickly pick up the languages and tools we use. With that in mind, these are the skills we're looking for:

  • An excellent programmer, able to work productively with a large existing code base and a mix of technologies.
  • Equally good on your own or working with other developers.
  • A clear thinker who writes quality code with minimal re-work.
  • Excellent written English. The role requires us to write our own documentation and communicate clearly and professionally with customers and partners on a daily basis.

Experience that will come in handy in the job includes:

  • Java and familiarity with popular libraries such as Guava, JAX-RS.
  • Web development - both server and client side.
  • Javascript
  • C/C++
  • Client server development using REST APIs or RPC protocols such as SOAP.
  • Worked in an Agile, Kanban style development process
